Why is The Aquabats! Vs. The Floating Eye of Death! And Other Amazing Adventures, Vol. 1 on my best 1,000 albums ever list?

What does The Aquabats! Vs. The Floating Eye of Death! And Other Amazing Adventures, Vol. 1 mean to me? What does it make me feel? Why is it exciting or compelling?
Whereas Tenacious D is both hilarious and rocks hard and Flight of the Conchords is hilarious and performs great music across a bunch of genres (which can include the hard rocking), The Aquabats manage to be zany and funny while always rocking hard, typically from a ska punk straight out of the OC (that’s Orange County, California) perspective.
The first three tracks on this spectacularly named album – “Sequence Erase,” “Giant Robot-Birdhead,” and “Anti-Matter,” – are among the best the band has ever produced, though as a whole the album released two years earlier in 1997, The Fury of the Aquabats!, is their best overall effort.
“Sequence Erase” is a great album opener, setting the stage for the bizarro fun ska punk party to come. It almost feels like it could be the opening to a wacky sci fi comedy musical.
And from that perspective, “Giant Robot-Birdhead” introduces the villain (maybe?) of said wacky sci fi comedy musical. In any event, it’s catchy as all get out and is my favorite song on the album.
“Anti-Matter” is pretty far up there too in terms of catchiness, and manages to convey a double meaning along the comedy sci fi level while floating the notion that not being into materialism is an a-okay idea. But you know, fun.
“Lovers of Loving Love” just says it all. ‘Nuff said, as we used to say back in the day.

I’ve seen The Aquabats live a number of times, including on the east coast and west coast. They are incredibly zany live and put on an incredible show. If you’re not familiar, The Aquabats have a truly and ludicrously fun backstory, and therefore wear costumes on stage that include superhero-ish outfits and goggle-y disguises. And live shows will include props such as the Floating Eye of Death come out on stage and such. Most of all though the music is great, fun, and somehow even family friendly and wholesome-ish.
