House investigates a four-year-old’s death while his team diagnoses a seven-year-old.
What’s better than House (Hugh Laurie) and his team solving a tough medical mystery? Two medical mysteries. The best part about House has always been the characters and their relationships and an episode like this that has the opportunity for plenty of staff interaction is pure gold.
Another reason I love this show is because it constantly reinforces my distrustful nature. Even in their most dire situations, people will still lie in order to keep up appearances. It’s truly amazing. I understand why Chase (Jesse Spencer) felt the need to lie and that’s the kind of thing everybody does, but sitting in a hospital bed with no control over your bodily functions is not the time to be worried about embarrassment.
It seems to be a staple on medical shows that eventually one character appears on television giving medical advice. This version, however, has to be the best. Doctor Downunder is so inane that one can only assume that Chase got a hefty paycheck for his appearance.
I’ve gotten pretty used to seeing disturbing images on House and television in general but I have to admit that even I was affected by such a shocking amount of blood. Group that with the fascinating multiple personalities and all the triggers and this may be the most interesting case all season.
Not to mention the saddest. Cases involving children are always heart breaking and this episode had two of them. I suppose the good news is that the third child can be treated and will go on to live a happy life.
I’m hoping that this will be the end of Foreman (Omar Epps) trying to control House, as it’s clear that he can’t be controlled. It makes more sense that they go back to the model that Cuddy (Lisa Edelstein) used and simply punish him with clinic hours. In any case, I’m over that conflict. It’s time to move on.
