The Fratellis – Here We Stand: #686 of best 1,000 albums ever!

The Fratellis - Here We Stand

Why is The Fratellis’ Here We Stand on my best 1,000 albums ever list?

You can find her screaming along with the ghosts, reminds you she’s the one that you need the most.

What does The Fratellis’ Here We Stand mean to me? What does it make me feel? Why is it exciting or compelling?

Getting to call out the brilliance of a relatively deep cut song like “Stragglers Moon” by a not super well known band (at least in my general age demo and geolocation) like The Fratellis is one of the things that makes this massive undertaking of a best 1,000 albums ever project worthwhile.

What’s fun for me is that my path to getting into The Fratellis came by way of fun alt rock with hooks-for-days songs like “She’s Not Gone Yet But She’s Leaving,” off of We Need Medicine from 2013 (#674 of best 1,000 albums ever).

Songs like “Stragglers Moon” take that clever Scottish spirit and hook writing prowess and slow it down a bit, sprinkling in a slightly darker, Echo & the Bunnymen-type vibe, perhaps. “Stragglers Moon” has become one of my most favorite Fratellis songs, and one I play quite a bit these days.

Here We Stand does of course offer up lots of The Fratellis we’ve become accustomed to, and “My Friend John” is a perfect example, this one incorporating a little bit of a boot stomping Western vibe. Most and best of all it’s a blast of a rocker, and the vocal harmonies on the chorus are exceptional.

“Tell Me A Lie” again crushes out a chorus that you could imagine lighting up an arena crowd as easily as dazzling a smaller venue crowd.

What does the “best 1,000 albums ever” mean and why are you doing this?

Yeah, I know it’s audacious, a little crazy (okay, maybe a lot cray cray), bordering on criminal nerdery.

But here’s what it’s NOT: a definitive list of the Greatest Albums of All-Time. This is 100% my own personal super biased, incredibly subjective review of what my top 1,000 albums are, ranked in painstaking order over the course of doing research for nearly a year, Rob from High Fidelity style.
