So why is Weezer’s Maladroit on this best 1,000 albums ever thing?
I love Weezer. Love them. So it’s exciting for me to get to the first of multiple Maladroit is lean, riff-heavy, hard rocking, and maybe gets lost in the mix of great Weezer records.
“Fall Together,” the best song on Maladroit, is one of my all-time favorite Weezer songs. It’s a perfect Weezer song, really: it opens with an absolutely crushing hard rock guitar riff, it’s catchy as hell, and features Rivers Cuomo’s knack for crafting verses that segue seamlessly into soaring choruses. In short, it absolutely rocks.
“Dope Nose” opens with a fast-paced guitar riff that sets the tone for the rest of the song. The song’s energy is matched by Rivers Cuomo’s high-pitched vocals providing a dynamic contrast to the instrumentation. The lyrics, about wanting to escape the mundane and take risks, are relatable – very much so these days, I dare say.
“Take Control” is a powerful rock song that showcases Weezer’s versatility. Its distorted guitar solo stands out and crackles with urgency, while the lyrics – about taking control of one’s life and not settling for mediocrity (notice a theme?) – are inspiring.
The chorus on “Keep Fishin'” is incredibly catchy and will stay stuck in your head for days. The music video, featuring the Muppets, is also a fun addition that adds to the overall excitement of the track.
Fun fact: Maladroit was recorded in just two weeks. Super fast for any band, and especially for one as meticulous as Rivers Cuomo and crew.

What does the “best 1,000 albums ever” mean and why are you doing this?
Yeah, I know it’s audacious, a little crazy (okay, maybe a lot cray cray), bordering on criminal nerdery.
But here’s what it’s NOT: a definitive list of the Greatest Albums of All-Time. This is 100% my own personal super biased, incredibly subjective review of what my top 1,000 albums are, ranked in painstaking order over the course of doing research for nearly a year, Rob from High Fidelity style.
