The Second Best Hospital in the Galaxy is a new animated series on Amazon Prime. What’s it about?
Well, the first thing to note about The Second Best Hospital in the Galaxy, beyond the wild name, is that it sports an incredible cast doing the voice work, which includes Natasha Lyonne as Nurse Tup, Kieran Culkin as Dr. Plowp, Stephanie Hsu as Dr. Sleech, and Maya Rudolph as Dr. Vlam.

Anyway, it’s about “Sleech and Klak, two brilliant female alien doctors who specialize in rare sci-fi illnesses.” We also know that they will “tackle anxiety-eating parasites, illegal time loops, and deep-space STIs.” I would venture to say that wackiness and animated sci-fi comedy awaits!
In the video trailer we also learn this: “Welcome to the future. It’s the year 14,002.” And: “In this space hospital, everyone can hear you scream.”
This made me literally laugh out loud, lol irl.
I also must add that Natasha Lyonne’s voice lends itself particularly well to animated shows… which is not to say that she’s not also great in real life! Russian Doll is amazing. Well… Season 1 is amazing! Season 2… okay, we’re getting off track here.

The Second Best Hospital in the Galaxy releases its first season, consisting of eight episodes, on Friday, February 23rd, on Amazon Prime.
Pop culture stuff that has something to do with The Second Best Hospital in the Galaxy
Kieran Culkin and Maya Rudolph are two of my all time favorite actors. I’ll watch either in anything, so if they’re both lending their voices and talents to The Second Best Hospital in the Galaxy, you know I’m gonna be all in on that.
Culkin has been on my radar since he starred in Igby Goes Down in 2002, and he really blew me away in Scott Pilgim vs. The World. It’s one of my all-time favorite movies, and Culkin steals every scene that he’s in, playing Scott’s roommate, Wallace Wells.
And then more recently, Culkin was sensational among an all-world cast in Succession, which just happened to end up as the #3 TV show on my Best 100 TV Shows Ever list.
Maya Rudolph has been in so many great things, that it’s hard to know where to start with her. She’s likely best known these days both for her work on Saturday Night Live (she’s credited with 162 episodes as of this writing!) and for playing Lillian in Bridesmaids, generally credited as one of the best comedy movies of the 2010s, if not this century.
A TV show that likely many missed that she and co-star Fred Armisen are sensational in is called Forever. It only ran for eight episodes back in 2018 and I dearly wish that we get more of it eventually. And Rudolph is always seamlessly great in ensemble comedies, ranging from Tina Fey’s Wine Country movie to the TV shows The Good Place and Up All Night.
