Brody has a face-to-face meeting with one of his former captors.
Meeting some members of our characters’ families is right on time. At this point in the series, it’s important to learn more about the main characters so we can understand why they do the things they do. Carrie’s (Claire Danes) relationship with her father was interesting in that it was clear that her main reason for visiting him is to see how his illness has progressed, so she can look for the same symptoms in herself. Is that kind of narcissism a side effect of her sickness or just a character flaw?
Seeing Saul’s (Mandy Patinkin) wife was a neat treat as well. What a drag it must be to have your husband have to run off to work at a moment’s notice. Sure, Saul has an important job, but marriage is tough enough. Can anyone blame her for wanting to make changes?
It might not be as bad as a barbed wire wrapped stick to the buttocks, but deafening, death metal, blinding lights and freezing cold temperatures still equal torture. As usual, Homeland shows us a clear example of how the CIA operates on a system of denial and double standards. The fact that Carrie is spying on Brody (Damian Lewis) while clearly being attracted to him is proof of that.
However, it’s not just the CIA. In this world, deception is clearly the key to success. Did Brody slip a razor blade to the prisoner during their scuffle? If so, then the entire meeting was part of a well thought out plan. A plan that was important enough for Brody to miss another important family event.
Once again, Homeland keeps me guessing and keeps me wanting more. Five years ago, if you had told me that eventually the most compelling show on television would be on Showtime, I’d have laughed in your face and yet, here we are.
