“This started as an assignment, but this became…” – Fauxlivia
Olivia finally made it home! For real this time, and the actual reunion was very sweet… and loaded with so much more guilt than usual on Peter’s side that I wouldn’t be surprised if he collapsed under the strain and went totally off the deep end.
Once again, Fringe did the unexpected. There was no hostage-taking, and apparently the whole Peter thing was a red herring — she was there for the machine parts. So far. And when it came right down to it, she was very gentle in her getaway, which, considering all her previous violence, was unusual to say the least. We’ll say it’s because out Universe has changed her, not because she was acting out of character or someone else was writing her or something.
The best part, though, is that there is now a definite push in the direction of finding another way to solve the problem of the universes colliding. Although the one person in the division who believed her is now cooked because of his approximately equal mass. Henry is her only help left, unless Lincoln and Scarlie decide to switch sides. And who knows how the rest of the season is going to go now? Certainly not this reviewer!
After the little hiatus for Thanksgiving, this was a great episode to come back with. It raised the stakes, it threw out a few new ideas, and it reset the confusing characters where they should be — in a way that complicates things. Alt-Broyles is out of the picture, and Olivia doesn’t know just how well Fauxlivia took up her life. And I’m sure she’ll be blamed for Alt-Broyles, and that will be used as an excuse to attack. And then things will get really interesting.
More thoughts on Fringe, “Entrada”:
* Why the heck would Peter inject himself like that? Is he suddenly suicidal? That could have been anything in that needle!
* Alt-Broyles was a little of a hard-ass, but he was a good person. Too bad he didn’t get a chance to fight back against Walternate. Who totally deserves it.
* They have the typewriter! They don’t know how to use it, but maybe they can figure it out.
* I wonder what made this trip different from the others that she didn’t linger in the Redniverse so they could pull her back?
* This picture is unflattering to Fauxlivia’s upper arm.
* The test Peter gave her was perfect. And it was good to get continuity all the way back to the beginning of last season like that.
* The scene in the lab-jail where she had the lines drawn on her head and with the huge eyes was fabulous. The bond built by last episode between her and Alt-Broyles was delicate and lovely.
