It’s Day 12 and the search for Dr. Emmet Cole continues in the Amazonian jungle.
This week’s episode was a bit of a departure from last week’s two-hour premiere. Before the episode began, the promo advised us to turn the lights on to ward off the scary, but, quite honestly I didn’t find this week’s episode to be anywhere as scary as last week’s.
It’s Day 12 and the search for Dr. Emmet Cole continues in the Amazonian jungle. As opposed to last week, Emilio and his daughter Jahel also join in on the hike. When they arrive at their destination, determined by a picture of Emmet they found on the boat, they realize that they need to enter a cave. Jahel recognizes the markings above the entrance as those of The Morcegos (The Bats). They are a tribe in the jungle who judge everyone who enters it to determine whether or not they are worthy to continue. How does Jahel know so much? She is also the one who knew the story behind the oversized looking coconut shell last week and the blood inside of it.
Of course, they all enter the cave, except for AJ who refuses to enter any cave as he was once trapped in one, and they soon come across a corpse inside of it with its eyes cut out. They begin to hear screaming and they continue forward to hear where it’s coming from. They arrive and I must say I was a bit disappointed that they couldn’t figure out that the creatures making the noise and the beads of light they were looking at were bats. Emilio, who was in control of the camera, turns on the light and of course freaks the bats out and they start flying everywhere.
As nightfall is quickly approaching they decide to set up camp in the middle of the jungle. During the night The Morcegos come and they all have been marked by them, except for AJ who was shunned from the group. They all must be pretty deep sleepers not to have sensed that The Morcegos were all around them during the night. I would think that at least one of them would have been awoken. They soon realize that Emilio is missing; they go searching for him and find him sitting in the jungle complaining that he cannot see.
Quite honestly if I was blinded you would have heard me screaming for miles. I am amazed at how calm he is. It’s not long before Tess is also blinded on their hike back to the Magus. One by one they all begin to lose their sight and they seem to be taking it in stride. Seriously? Lena, Kurt and AJ go off to find an anti-dote for the blindness after reading one of Emmet’s books. Okay, they go off in a raft but, I could have sworn that their rafts were destroyed last week and that’s why they had to get the Magus up and running. Did I miss something? There’s nothing I dislike more in a television show than inconsistent storylines.
While searching for the antidote they come across The Morcegos but hide from them. Lena and Kurt soon lose their sight and it’s up to AJ to save the day. Well, he decides to cower out but on his hike to safety he comes across the Sentido Tree and decides to be a hero and faces his fear and enters a cave beneath the tree to get the bulbs needed to restore everyone’s sight, unfortunately his worst fears are met and the cave begins to close in on him. Meanwhile back on the Magus The Morcegos have boarded and are trying to attack those remaining on the boat. Clark decides to sacrifice himself to The Morcegos and tells them to take him and leave everyone else alone. I guess The Morcegos must have deemed them worthy because they retreat and one of them pulls AJ out of the cave. So, all ends well and they regain their sight and the right to enter the jungle. But I do wonder, what was the point of this episode? How does it get them any closer to finding Emmet?
