Harvey is Harvey and Mike is an idiot.
I’m not sure how I feel about the overall plot of this week’s episode of Suits. The soon-to-be CEO of an automotive firm that Harvey represents decides that he wants to outsource and Harvey, citing a loss of money for the firm and a loss of jobs for everyone else, tasks Mike with finding a loophole in the company bylaws that would allow him to usurp his client before the sale goes through.
Noble? Sure. Ethical? I’m still on the fence. Personally, yes, I’m rooting for Harvey. Save the jobs! Save the integrity of the product! Oh, sure, save your bank account while you’re at it. But the fact of the matter is that Harvey is not a part of this company and he’s basically manipulating events to fit his own wants.
Gina Torres is, once again, tragically underused in a scene that exists solely for Jessica Hardman to yell at Harvey for disregarding the wants of others over the wants of himself. At least she sees the problem like I do and acts as a voice of reason against Harvey’s Robin Hood antics:
“I want him out,” Harvey says, in regard to the CEO.
“That’s not your call.” Jessica argues back.
That’s not to say I’m against Robin Hood antics. I’m just against powerful people abusing their power. This time, Harvey’s intentions are good. What if the next time around, they aren’t? It’s a slippery slope. So far, Harvey appears to do whatever he wants with maybe an obligatory finger-waggle from Jessica. I’m curious to see if anyone ever actually tries to stop Harvey. I’m concerned that we haven’t really seen that yet.
Meanwhile, while he’s doing Harvey’s grunt work, Mike also has to plan the “Rookie Dinner” for the law firm. Like a wicked stepmother, Louis sweeps in and gives him a list of ridiculous conditions. He enlists Rachel’s help in picking a venue because once again, Mike proves that he’s incapable of doing anything for himself.
Loser friend Trevor’s blonde girlfriend shows up and we find out that her name is Jenny. She tells Mike to come back to them and accuses him of ditching them, “like [they] didn’t mean anything to [him].” Mike visits Grandma Awesome for advice and she tells him that loser friend Trevor is a loser. Have I mentioned how much I love Grandma? I love Grandma.
Mike, of course, doesn’t listen and goes to patch things up with Trevor. They come to blows and Mike reaffirms his desire to never see Trevor again. He leaves in a huff and forgets his briefcase. We see loser friend Trevor’s slimy paws creeping into the shot to wrap themselves around the handle of the briefcase right before commercial and I suspect that this will cause some angst later on this season. As will the passionate angsty kiss of angst that Mike shares with Jenny on the stoop of his apartment right before he tells her to get out of his life. Again.
Then, Mikey ignores a phone call from Rachel. He looks sad about ignoring her and he looks sad about Jenny walking away in a tearful ball of woe. I smell a love triangle.
Great.
My lack of enthusiasm, let me show it.
