This is probably the closest thing we’re going to get to the Winchesters taking on the TARDIS.
Dean and Sam head off to 1944 to hunt down a time lord… er… I mean a time god in this edition of Supernatural.
Apparently, Canton, Ohio is the place to be for de-powered ancient gods, previously seen in that Season Five episode with the homicidal Paris Hilton wax statue that I personally like to pretend never aired. Id love to’ know how Canton’s tourism department does it. I mean, I’ve been there and all I can really say about the place is that they have a very nice water tower.
So, Chronos is mummifying hapless humans in 2012 with his bare hands to keep his god batteries charged, otherwise he can’t control himself and just flies all willy-nilly through the centuries like Eric Bana in The Time Traveler’s Wife. The willy-nilly thing is a problem, since Chronos has fallen in love with a woman in 1944. Dean interferes with his latest 2012 pit-stop and ends up being dragged back to 1944 where he meets up with none other than the untouchable Elliot Ness, who just so happens to be a hunter himself.
It’s every bit as awesome as you imagine.
While Dean and Ness work together to take down Chronos, Sam is pulling his luscious hair out in an effort to get Dean back to 2012. Sheriff Jody drops by to help because despite the much vocalized intention to isolate the Winchesters by killing all of the things, we have yet to see an episode in the wake of Bobby’s death where Sam and Dean are actually truly alone. It appears that television series work better with supporting cast after all. Shocking, I know.
I can’t complain though, because Jody Mills is awesome when she threatens to use the “mom voice” on Sam. Surely, she is destined to become Leviathan chow by the end of the season.
While not heavy on the Leviathan storyline this week, aside from Chronos’ cryptic gloating/warning when he is inevitably wasted at the conclusion of “Time After Time,” this is a fun romp in time, more akin to last year’s “Frontierland” than our previous, more angst-laden outings in the past/alternate-future.
More Timey Awesomeness:
- Sam and Dean turning to Rock, Paper, Scissors for all of their decision making needs.
- “Back to the Future 3! I’m going to need some paper.” – Dean
- Good lord, what is it with the menfolk cleaning up so nicely when you slap a suit on them? It’s just not right.
