Very few occasions are as joyful as the return of a long-awaited favorite show. I actually got goosebumps while watching the opening credits of the second season premiere of Game of Thrones for the first time.
The opening scene of Joffrey’s (Jack Gleeson) name day ceremony was awesome to see. They wasted no time reminding us how sadistic and unworthy of the crown he is. As I was watching I laughed out loud at how similar Joffrey is to Colton on this season of Survivor. Both are rich, arrogant douchebags with a completely unearned sense of entitlement. It’s almost painful watching Sansa (Sophie Turner) bide her time and walk on eggshells with him. The only relief comes in knowing that when he does get his comeuppance, it will come in the form of something much worse than appendicitis.
I was wondering how Daenerys’ (Emilia Clarke) dragons would be kept from kicking ass and ending the show and it makes sense that they will take a while to be a useful tool. In my limited understanding of dragons, they are long-lived creatures, so they need at least a season to mature. Hopefully that means we can see some scenes of baby dragons discovering their awesomeness. If they end up being killed or stolen before they mature, that will really suck.
I was so enthralled with Tyrion’s (Peter Dinklage) manipulations that I had completely forgotten about Shae (Sibel Kikilli). She is one of the most fascinating characters on Game of Thrones and I really hope she has a surprise in store for the Lannister’s.
While watching Cersei (Lena Headey) wield her considerable power, I was forced to ask myself if the Lannister’s are insane due to inbreeding or years of poisoning or are they just a family of horribly sadistic f—s? I suppose it’s all the same when you get down to it.
