Royal Pains, “An Apple a Day”: alpacas and lady love

Royal Pains - An Apple a Day

Hank treats Libby’s mom and Evan pops the question.

If every show started with two ladies kissing on an alpaca farm, I would never stop watching TV. I don’t remember Libby (Meredith Hagner) having two moms in her earlier appearances and that’s usually something I would have burned on my brain, but in any event, I was pleased to see that one of them was played by Julie Benz. Like most Dexter fans, I feel better when I see her getting work.

How sweet was Evan’s (Paulo Costanzo) proposal? What was even sweeter was Paige (Brooke D’Orsay) accepting without hesitation. I guess it wouldn’t be much of a storyline without having to ask her dad for permission.

It’s also nice to see Divya (Reshma Shetty) getting her life back together and living like an adult for a change. I never understood how people over the age of twenty-one could still accept being supported by their parents, especially someone like Divya, a medical professional. How do you take someone like that seriously? Her taking a second job was the most believable thing she’s done since the series started. Maybe she’ll actually find a real boyfriend soon. Hopefully, he’ll be a lawyer who can help her with her lawsuit. Is it just me or is the idea of suing somebody because they didn’t marry your son the stupidest thing ever? The only thing I find more ridiculous is actually paying off the so-called debt.

The medical mystery in this episode seemed a little more House-ish than usual. Personally, I’d be surprised if someone who makes and eats their own alpaca cheese didn’t suffer from a variety of ailments. Scurvy seemed like an unlikely outcome, though. Don’t most people get Vitamin C accidentally? Has she never eaten a blueberry muffin? Jeez.

It makes sense that Jill (Jill Flint) would get professional help to find out what’s bothering her and her shrink seems competent. It makes even more sense that she would figure out what happened on her own. I loved watching her decipher the German phrase. Clearly, they were looking for Marissa (Paola Turbay), although I guess we’ll have to wait to find out why.

Overall, I liked what was set up in this episode, if only because the payoff looks to be awesome.
