Royal Pains, “But There’s a Catch”: HankMed needs to work on their ball handling skills

Royal Pains - But There's A Catch

Hank competes with an old rival at a charity football event.

One of the things I love about shows on the USA network is that they are actually shot in the places they are set. In addition to enjoying a quality show, I also get to see parts of the country that I will probably never visit. After all, my TV watching schedule keeps me pretty busy. I don’t know if I would ever want to visit the Hamptons but at least I have an idea what it’s like there in the summer.

As this episode begins, Evan (Paulo Costanzo) is calling the morning meeting of HankMed to order and officially welcomes Jill (Jill Flint) to the group. The main order of business, however, is figuring out how to help Divya (Reshma Shetty) cope with being cut off by her parents. While it’s clear she is going through a tough time, the upshot is that we get to see many shots of Shetty in her underwear.

The other plot in this episode involves Hank and a charity football game in which he gets to measure, uh… guy parts, with his old rival, Ken Keller (Michael B. Silver). Oh, and there is also some sort of medical mystery going on with Ken’s gardener (Sab Shimono), but do any of us watch Royal Pains for the medical stuff? Personally, I watch for The Fonz.

As in most episodes, there is an emergency when Keller breaks his wrist in the middle of a touchdown dance and Hank has to come to the rescue. However, this particular emergency came with a twist when Divya’s car got repossessed and there were no drugs to treat the fracture. This was the first time in a long time that Hank’s MacGyver medical care wasn’t ham-fistedly forced in to the script. Not only was it organic but it also served the other plot of the episode. Bonus points for improved writing, RP.

The key moment of the episode has to be when Hank cut off Keller’s cast, revealing a disgustingly purple forearm. After another medical maneuver, a lot of hugs, hand holding, and a car with a big red bow, the episode comes to an end with Paige (Brooke D’Orsay) almost revealing a huge secret to Hank. My money is on a bun in the oven.

Aside from the more natural reason for Hank to be a miracle worker, I wasn’t too impressed with this episode. No Henry Winkler and no Campbell Scott. Just a couple of actual football pros who I couldn’t care less about. Well, at least I saw a hot chick in her boxers.
