Hank and Evan go to Florida for their father’s parole hearing.
Is there a better actor on television than Henry Winkler?
Probably, but I don’t want to hear about it because I am thoroughly excited about this episode. Not only were the writers smart enough to put the Fonz in the opening scene, but they set it in Florida giving us a nice change of pace. I only hope they don’t accidentally run into Michael Westen. He has enough problems.
Personally, I have lost interest in the drama between Boris (Campbell Scott) and Marisa (Paola Turbay). I’m a fan of Boris and his understated yet threatening demeanor but I just can’t get excited about the baby that he is too proud to look in on.
I figured Eddie (Henry Winkler) and Shaw (Jonathan Tucker) would have hooked up after Shaw’s release, if only so Hank (Mark Feuerstein) could cure his supposed sightings. Any armchair doctor can see that he clearly has something wrong with his brain. The only question is what and how will Hank fix it.
With Royal Pains being a medical show, there isn’t a lot of opportunity for mystery, which is another reason why Eddie is such a welcome character. All the suspense around the mysterious Ted Roth was very interesting and knowing that Ed Asner was going to show up as Roth, had me champing at the bit.
As far as Evan (Paolo Costanzo) and Paige (Brooke D’Orsay) are concerned I agree with Hank. It’s way too early for him to be thinking about marriage. The simple fact that Paige is keeping her medical problems a secret from him is proof enough that she’s not ready to take the plunge.
Wow, I had no idea that Ted was going to end up being Eddie’s dad. It’s like a Mary Tyler Moore reunion (Winkler dated Mary in one episode). If the folks at RP don’t find a way to make Asner a semi-regular, they are utter fools.
No matter how many times the old “car accident out of nowhere” trick is used I am always shocked by it. In this case, it was especially effective because I was so concentrated on the Lawson family looking for Shaw. It’s nice to see them raising the stakes in this episode and I hope that continues.
