When you’re starting to ask yourself, “should I be caring?”
This is the second time I’ve reviewed this show, and my handle on it is more solid. That doesn’t make the show more solid, unfortunately. It’s not a bad show, not by a long way. It’s also not really all that close to being a good show, and I’m having a hard time at this point seeing it get there.
There are good elements to How to Make It in America to be sure. There’s the (very) occasional funny line, the occasional feel of a spark that will take things to a higher level. But all together it feels like something you watch, you take it in, then it ends, and you’re pretty happy at that point to move on with your life.
Part of it has to do with it not knowing if it’s a comedy or a drama. That’s not necessarily a killer, by the way, but this show doesn’t really engage on either a dramatic or comedic level, which is a big problem. Also, more than in “Crisp,” this episode had various storylines playing out that didn’t seem to connect with each other at all (Rasta Monster, the boys finding the money for the test pattern, the girls musing about finding meaningful work, and so on).

- TV Fanatic: We are still not in love with the main heroine Rachel. We still find her to be rather annoying. She reminds us of that girl in High School who was always trying to suck up to the teachers – you know, the one who thinks she is the best. Ugh.
