Will Schuester finally reaps what he sows.
I liked this particular episode of Glee. You know why? No, it’s not because the story is particularly good. No, it isn’t because Santana (Naya Rivera) has embraced her lesbianism so much that she doesn’t find David Martinez (Ricky Martin) attractive. And no, it’s not because of Ricky Martin’s participation as a guest star.
It’s because Will Schuester (Matthew Morrison, the wannabe Spanish Teacher) finally receives what’s coming to him. He’s finally called out on how insufferable of a teacher he is. I cannot find anything more hilarious. Well, Sue Sylvester (Jane Lynch) trying to hit the Glee boys up for sperm to have a baby is funny.
It’s clear that the writers of Glee listen to the outcry of fans. I’m not the only one who is a member of the “I hate Schuester” club. For the writers to craft a story like this means that they are fully aware of how ridiculous Will’s character is. Ricky Martin’s character is meant to illuminate the fact that Will cannot speak Spanish and has no business being in a classroom setting. Tears flooded my eyes as I was laughing at Will’s predicament. Apparently, there is a tenure position open at the highs school (high schools have tenure positions?) and every teacher wants it. Sue and Will desire the position the most, but students have filed complaints against their teaching styles. Now the two must work in order to procure the position. Will decides to use Spanish songs as a way to teach his Glee kids. It doesn’t work but it gives an excuse to hear some songs in Spanish.
Ricky Martin aka David Martinez aka this character name sounds like an Hispanic porn star, out performs Will Schuester as a teacher… again. David and Holly Holiday (Gwyneth Paltrow) give Will a run for his money. Speaking of which, why hasn’t she come back this season yet? The whole “who snitched on Will and Sue” plot works as a framing device in the episode and yields some great character moments. It’s fantastic to see Santana rip into Will over his incompetent teaching skills. It’s also heart touching to see Sue want a baby, but really out of character.
Outside of Sue’s swipes at the Glee boys and Will for their baby juice, there is also a plot involving Mercedes (Amber Riley) and Sam (Chord Overstreet). It doesn’t go anywhere but it is a nice touch. In any case, a very entertaining chapter, if only for pure superficial reason.
