Michael rescues a group of hostages during a bank robbery, while Sam and Fi track down info on Max’s killer.
The good news is we finally got a look at the guy who killed Max (Grant Show). The bad news is he got away and nobody has any idea who he is. That said, the fact that he’s not someone from a past episode is good news, as far as I’m concerned. I just wasn’t prepared for Larry Sizemore (Tim Matheson) or Tom Strickler (Ben Shenkman) to make a surprise return visit.
Even though we don’t know who killed Max, at least one vital question got answered. Whatever happened to “The Pretender?” I found Michael T. Weiss charmingly creepy in this episode. What he may have lost in the boyish good looks department, he gained in the interesting actor column.
Michael (Jeffrey Donovan) went full on MacGyver in this episode, didn’t he? I’m glad he took that mission by himself. It gets a little irritating when Fi (Gabrielle Anwar) or Jesse (Coby Bell) insist on bringing up personal issues in the middle of a shootout.
Case in point, Fi and Sam (Bruce Campbell) have enough to worry about with the dude in their trunk and the cop on their tail. Is it really the best time for Sam to play relationship counselor?
I generally enjoy it when things go wrong for Michael but having them go so badly that his mother has to come to his rescue is a little beyond believable. I get that Maddie (Sharon Gless) is a character who makes this show different from the other offerings on TV, but when her knocking a guy out is what saves multiple lives, I call that reaching.
Clearly, we’re going to get a meeting with Max’s killer next week before this is all said and done, I guess really the question is whether or not Michael can bring him in before he’s nabbed for the crime. Tune in next week. Same Burn-time. Same Burn-channel.
