Up All Night, “Working Late and Working It”: it’s hard to get both

Up All Night - Working Late and Working It

It’s all about the art of getting what you want.

It’s the third episode of NBC’s new comedy series, Up All Night, and while I did enjoy the first two editions I feel like the producers and team are going to have to step it up a notch in order for me to keep watching.

This week Chris is on a mission to get the romance back into his and Reagan’s relationship. He has prepared a romantic Italian dinner and when Reagan comes home she changes out of her work clothes and into sweats before sitting down with him and devouring the meal as Chris looks on in astonishment. Not exactly what he was hoping for. The following day Chris gets advice from a fellow stay-at-home dad who tells him he needs to put sexy out there in order to get in return. He advises him to change his clothes and underwear and demonstrates the butt flex which amazes Chris.

That evening when Reagan comes home Chris is not in his usual laid back attire, but in more form-fitting clothing. It doesn’t take long for Reagan to pick up on what he is doing and of course she gets mad. The following morning Chris attempts to make amends by cooking her favorite breakfast, she’s not going to let him off the hook that easy though. She comes dressed for breakfast all fancied up and brings Chris a suit jacket to wear.

Ava helps Reagan see the light and convinces her that she shouldn’t be mad at Chris. She tells her that he’s one of the good guys. Ultimately, Reagan forgives him and ends up wearing a thong, a gift from Ava, under her usual sweats. This of course makes Chris happy.

The episode was cute but I just feel that they are going to have to step-up a little when it comes to storylines surrounding Regan and Chris. Ava dealing with her emotions following the announcement of her former fiancé’s engagement was much more entertaining than what was going on with them. And since the show is supposed to be centered on Reagan and Chris’ adventures as being new parents they need to throw some originality into that concept since Ava’s dysfunctional personality and the antics it produces are peripheral to that. People want to be entertained and not watch a scripted show and think “Oh, I’ve dealt with that.”
