“Talk to me about Crazy Town Banana-Pants.” – Dr. Heidi
Typically, when a show is nearing the end of its run – and sometimes its budget – it turns on the failsafe for a week and, rather than produce a whole new episode, tethers together clips of catchphrases and one-liners from seasons past, changing pace with the odd non-sequitur.
This is not another clip episode. Or rather, this is another not-a-clip episode.
While the rest of the study group has been spending their two post-expulsion months together having potlucks, Abed has been busy Inspector Spacetiming the obvious imposter who replaced Dean Pelton. Alone in his belief, Abed is caught rooting through Greendale’s garbage, and, instead of being charged, must attend therapy. Sensitive to their friend`s potential psychological problems, the rest of the Greendale Seven accompany their friend to make his case as much as their own.
Greendale’s suspiciously-chosen shrink, Dr. Heidi (John Hodgman) gradually pieces together anecdotal evidence from each of the Greendale Seven, ultimately concluding that they’re all crazy. Or rather, they’ve been crazy. Or they’ve been in purgatory. Actually, none of the above. Despite being absent from Greendale for two months, the group still has plenty of memories that we’ve missed along the way, and this week’s conceptual follow-up to “Paradigms of Human Memory” succeeds in producing new, side-splitting clips while moving the season towards its close.
Chang has been busy in the two months since kidnapping Dean Pelton, going so far as to enlist someone even less qualified than Britta to be a psychologist to sidetrack the group from discovering the Chang-ception. Annie is the first to clue in to the favoritism typically demonstrated by the real Dean, and suspects that he would never expel them so callously.
