Go Finn! Pursue your princess!
Finn and Princess Bubblegum do the nasty – no, not that nasty.
Fanfiction-writing fans have been waiting since the beginning for a story that focuses on this couple and their fanboy prayers have been answered. But, they’ll have to deal with an OCD lemon guy as part of the package. “Too Young” spices up the regular adventure formula with a hint of puppy love and also delivers a bittersweet but poignant ending that keeps fans interest.
Now a 13-year-old, Princess Bubblegum is unfit to rule the Candy Kingdom. As per the law, the Earl of Lemongrab – he’s just as anal as he sounds – comes to take the throne away until the princess becomes 18 again. Finn and the Princess launch a plan that involves barraging the Earl with pranks. Despite some hilarious gags, the duo fail and now must consider the unthinkable: they must decide whether Bubblegum should scientifically enhance her age.
This choice of irreconcilable goods enhanced the character development in both Finn and Bubblegum. Finn showed his willingness to wait for the Princess and the Princess showed her dedication to her people. The two showed signs of maturity that other kids’ cartoon characters lack and also managed to sneak a smooch with each other. The kiss, even with all its crazy flashes, resonates with poignancy for the two heroes.
It represents a turning point in their relationship and demonstrates the importance of their relationship in the series. Yes, their bond will continue to develop despite Princess Bubblegum returning to an 18-year-old. I probably should have made a spoiler warning for that, but yeah, our 18-year-old pink princess returns. You know that kiss from earlier, that catalyzed the transformation. Furthermore, the princess took pieces from her own people and combined with them through Finn’s saliva in order to prep for the change. I’m going to let the symbolism talk for itself on that one.
In addition to the ample character development, the Earl of Lemongrab provides tons of comedy for the episode. His screaming will make you want to chop him up and put him in your water; his voice will make you hurl. There isn’t much to complain about here, especially since he is voiced by Justin Roiland. In fact, the only bad thing about this episode is the plot hole that develops when Finn and the Princess are captured. Couldn’t they have avoided the whole transforming-Princess-Bubblegum thing if they had just called Jake to rescue them? Maybe not, but it is something to ponder.
If you are a fan of Adventure Time, you should see this episode. The final scene is the most elegant thing the show has done… ever. I’m turning into a fanboy but stay with me on this one. Go Finn! Pursue your princess! Dear lord, I feel 12 again.
