Beavis and Butt-Head, “Holy Cornholio”: the beloved bunghole

Beavis and Butt-Head - Holy Cornholio

“You will belove my bunghole!” – Beavis/Cornholio

It’s been quite some time since I’ve felt the urge to pull my shirt over the back of my head, raise my hands in front of my chest with my palms facing outward, and babble incoherently about TP and bungholes. Growing up, there wasn’t a character that I emulated more frequently or with more gusto than the Great Cornholio. I wanted to be Cornholio. On Thursday night, that familiar itch to yank my shirt up and speak in tongues crept right back into my gut, making itself at home as if it had never left. Nostalgia is a powerful force indeed.

“Holy Cornholio” is the first of the new batch of Beavis and Butt-Head episodes to devote the entire half-hour to a single vignette. As much as I enjoy the short 15-minute mini-episode format, I appreciate that extra time is devoted to one story this week. The more Cornholio the better in my book.

The episode begins as so many do with Beavis doing serious bodily harm to himself. The boys are goofing off in Stewart’s garage, torturing G.I. Joes with vice-grips and screwdrivers. Beavis accidentally puts a screw through his hand while violating an action figure’s backside. “Don’t worry, Beavis. It’s not the first time you screwed your hand,” Butt-Head jokes.

After removing the screw, an ER doctor gives Beavis a bottle of painkillers and strict instructions to only take one pill at a time. Taking too much could result in severe hyperactivity. Beavis, of course, chews up the entire bottle and transforms into Cornholio.  Meanwhile, an elderly cult leader passes away at the same hospital. With his last breath, he assures his flock that he will soon be reincarnated. When the cult members see Cornholio roaming the halls of the hospital speaking in tongues, they assume their beloved leader has returned to guide them to the promised land.

The cult takes their “new messiah” along with “Prophet Butt-Head” to their compound, The Center For The New Arcana. At the command of the “Beloved Bunghole,” a stage is erected and piled high with TP. Just as Beavis takes the stage to address his followers, the pills begin to wear off and he loses his steam. Suddenly bored with the cult, the boys bail and head back to their (beloved) couch. If only they had stuck around for a few more hours they could have participated in the sexual ritual of the “Great Conception.”
