Morgan’s new Night at the Roxbury hair matches Morgan’s new personality. He’s loud and rude and generally just kind of a dick. Chuck points out, “I hate to say it, buddy, but you’re starting to remind me of 7th grade Morgan.”
Oh god, not 7th grade Morgan. No one is a particularly likeable person in 7th grade. I suspect that Morgan might have been worse than others.
In 7th grade, it was his status as the first male in their class to successfully grow a moustache that inflated Morgan’s ego to the point that only a public “pants-ing” brought him under control. This time around, it’s the Intersect. While Morgan finds his boxers yet again exposed to the world in an attempt to humble him, it’s ultimately some new age-ish, remember-who-you-really-are crap that brings him down.
Apparently, General Beckham isn’t the one who left the Intersect glasses for Chuck back in the season 4 finale, and armed with that knowledge, Chuck realizes that the only other person who would have access to the technology is Big Bad Decker… and he certainly wouldn’t just give Chuck back the Intersect without some sort of ulterior motive. Like, say, maybe turning him into a vaguely cartoony villain.
So, it’s only partially Morgan’s fault that he’s being an insufferable d-bag, but Casey still wants to shoot him for dumping Alex via text message and Morgan’s Intersect inflated ego is still causing no end of trouble for Carmichael Industries when he steals their latest assignment.
I was definitely distracted by the idea of Morgan simply remembering who he is as a means of overriding what is essentially a computer virus. I mean, I wish I could just will my computer to function when it’s blue-screening at me and making slightly horrifying noises. It seemed a little quaint and silly, though it’s a relief when Morgan finally snaps out of his ego trip and accidentally sets a building on fire. That’s our Morgan, and we love him.
However, all is not squeaky clean at Carmichael Industries despite having Morgan back on planet Earth. All of his blabbing and bragging about being a government secret lands Morgan on quite a few hit lists.
Back at the Buy More, a bored-out-of-his-mind Captain Awesome, who volunteered for maternity leave so that Ellie could go back to work, manages to turn perpetual problem employee Jeff into a mild-mannered upstanding human being. I might actually be more excited to see where this storyline goes than the bounty-on-Morgan one.
