In the season opener of The Little Couple we pick up right where we left off in the season finale earlier this year. Jen and Bill are about to meet with their potential surrogate, Cindy, and her husband James.
Jen and Bill explain to Cindy and James their reasons for surrogacy and their struggles with creating embryos and Cindy and James explain to them why they want to be surrogates. The meeting goes well and Jen and Bill and Cindy and James decide that they want to work together. Jen and Bill are now one step closer to having the children they desire.
Jen and Bill get their feet wet, so-to-speak, and spend a day baby-sitting one of Jen’s coworkers children, two-year old Cole. Billy looks scared. He actually comments on Cole’s limited vocabulary. If he’s scared of a two-year old imagine how he will feel with an actual baby who cannot speak at all and is completely dependent on him and Jen. Overall they do well, taking Cole to a children’s museum where he can play and learn, but, they fail to change his diaper the entire time they are with him. A word of advice for anyone whoever baby-sits, always change the child’s diaper before returning them to his his/her parents regardless if the diaper is soiled or not, it’s just the right thing to do.
On the second new episode of the season, Bill is preparing to go camping with his friend Dave. Bill is an avid camper but Jen tries to explain to him that camping in Texas is nothing like camping in New York, specifically Long Island where Bill is originally from. Bill and Dave are planning on camping out not far from where there are alligators, water moccasins and other deadly reptiles. I don’t know about you, but, that would be enough of a reason for me not to go. Jen is fearful because growing up in Florida she is accustomed to hearing of alligator attacks. Bill is hilarious; he questions the speed of a reptile. He’s such a New Yorker, although it’s not like you see snakes and alligators every day in the northeast.
As the construction on Jen and Bill’s custom-built home nears completion it’s time for the fun part to begin, decorating. Initially Jen was planning on decorating the house with her mom, but after giving it some thought she decides to enlist the help of an interior designer. Which is probably a good idea since the house is over 5,000 square foot and they will be decorating it from floor to ceiling with new furniture. Prior to Bill’s departure on his camping trip they meet with the designer, Michael, to get his ideas. Jen and Michael hit off instantly while Bill sits there just listening. He’s feeling a bit ignored but he doesn’t mind. When they go shopping Jen likes most of Michael’s choices, but, she puts her foot down when Michael tries to convince her of a gold-plated tree trunk coffee table. I definitely don’t blame her, it looked hideous.
Next week Jen and Bill get a little more practice baby-sitting when Bill’s brother and sister-in-law come for a visit with their newborn.
