Suit up, buckle in, and don’t worry about brushing up on your French – we’re going to the Hamptons!
Like a tree growing through hard ground, Weeds has had its fair share of rough terrain to traverse, forcing its roots out to the surface instead of pushing higher. This isn’t necessarily a bad thing, however; like I said earlier this season, Weeds would need to revisit its past success in order to generate new life for the seasoned show.
After forbidding Silas from working with Emma, and thereby preventing him from getting caught up in the impending raid on Pouncy House, Nancy arranges to make her way to the Hamptons in search of new clientele. Accompanying Doug and Andy, Nancy leaves Silas at home to learn about Emma’s bust from Shane, who finally clues in to why he was released.
Taking any chance he can to try and force Nancy’s favoritism between himself and his brother, Shane casually wedges the news of Nancy’s deal into conversation, sending Silas over the edge. Already livid with Nancy’s tendency to control everything and her patronizing treatment of him, Silas takes the database of clients and storms out.
Looking for a way to unload all her extra product, Nancy quickly realizes just what types of people compose the Hamptonian population, and how to sell to them. After making her rounds through the epicurean element and inviting them to a luxurious party, Nancy hocks off her stash at $500 per dime-bag, wrapping her steeply marked-up product in fancy boxes, ribbon, and a life story richer than the schmucks dropping bucks on it. That’s marketing for ya!
By the way, have you met Bill Sussman? He likes Long Island iced teas, but he can hold his liquor and makes sweet love on bearskin rugs, bareback, and backwards. He looks and acts a lot like drunken Andy, but he still does his part to help Doug raise the funds to replace Vehement’s missing income in order to appease the S.E.C.
When Nancy returns, Shane is quick to rat out his brother’s theft – sorry, I mean he informs her. Nancy knows that Silas is already bitter about Emma’s arrest and her constant undermining of his decisions, so she treads carefully when approaching him about their next move. She doesn’t get much of a chance, however, as Silas officially declares himself Nancy’s competition, and storms off with a vicious good luck wish, and a warning that “everything is up for grabs.” Now more than ever, it certainly seems that way.
Even though there are only two episodes left this season, the future of Weeds remains up in the air. If the most recent episode is any indication of where the finale is headed, you can be sure that we’re in for a terrific send-off, and/or a gripping cliff-hanger.
Oh, and this week’s title? It’s French for “milf.” Now that’s some classy chronic.
