The Millionaire Matchmaker, “Vegas” Dave Oancea & Gerry McCambridge: client intros

After an opening segment involving Patti and boyfriend David going to “floating hot yoga” class, Marissa introduces “Vegas” Dave Oancea, 36, a “professional sports gambler.”

Check out our full and snark-tastic Millionaire Matchmaker episode guide and updates! Trash and treasure in equal increments, we promise.

“Wait, he just gambles all day long?” Patti asks.

We also quickly learn that Vegas Dave has never had a relationship that has lasted longer than two weeks.

“Red flag, red flag!” Justin chimes in.

In his video intro, Dave talks about how when he sleeps with a woman, he just “rotates to the next one, kick ‘em to the curb.” And when he says this, he does a little rotation motion with his hand.

I must say also that Vegas Dave doesn’t look like Patti’s typically well dressed and put together (if often ill mannered) clients. Vegas Dave… looks more like someone you might see hanging around the sports book on the Vegas Strip (or OTB, which stands for Off Track Betting, that we had back east when I was a kid).

Or as Patti puts it: “You’re just gonna tell me that Yoda over there sleeps with girls and they just fall at his feet.”

“Look at the gut falling out,” she adds. “That is just trashy. Trailer park city.”

Vegas Dave goes on to brag about how he enjoys spending $5,000-$10,000 “minimum” a night when going out to party in Las Vegas and that his ideal woman is a cocktail waitress. “Not too tall, fake tit or nice tits, nice legs, nice ass,” he adds.

Then he gets even more specific and even ruder (somehow): “Half Asian, half white, has to cook, can’t be messy.”

Patti frames Vegas Dave’s thoughts on women like he thinks of it as ordering a pizza: “I’ll have sausage, pepperoni, and green onions on that.”

“And he’s had a lot of pizzas,” Justin notes.

Vegas Dave wraps up his video intro soliloquy by nothing that he has a big heart and eats with his parents “three or four nights a week.”

“N.F.,” Patti concludes, which stands for “not f—able.”

Meanwhile, David introduces Gerry McCambridge, 51, who is also from Las Vegas, and in fact who is a “headlining” performer as a mentalist. In fact, he’s known as The Mentalist, not to be confused with The Mentalist the TV show.

Gerry has been divorced and now has six kids, three from each ex-wife. “Three boys, three girls, definitely Mr. Brady,” he says in his video intro.

The Millionaire Matchmaker, “Vegas” Dave Oancea & Gerry McCambridge: Patti meets the clients

Patti meets Vegas Dave at a spot called Whiskey Red, whereupon Patti greets him with, “You’re a little thing, aren’t you?”

Dave meanwhile reminds us that “all I do is pop bottles and sports bet,” that he loves spending thousands of dollars when he goes out, and that his longest relationship was a scant two weeks.

Vegas Dave tells Patti that he’s a “good guy” who is ready to get married, and that he’s also looking for a “perfect” hot wife who is good in bed, “and that also can cook.”

“It sounds like you’re looking for a slave,” Patti replies. “Do you think this is the f—ing ‘50s,” she adds.

When Dave balks at wearing a suit to the mixer, Patti tells him that “right now you look like you fell out of someone’s ass.”

Patti then meets Gerry at Riviera 41, where we learn that he has taken up a residency in Las Vegas at Planet Hollywood so that he can spend time with his (many) kids. His second marriage ended several years ago after being together for 15 years.

Smiles and a sense of humor are important factors for Gerry, which places him a vastly different mindset versus other Millionaire’s Club clients.

Patti also oddly emphasizes that Gerry must “tongue kiss” on the first date so that he and his date can know if there’s chemistry (or something).

The Millionaire Matchmaker, “Vegas” Dave Oancea & Gerry McCambridge: the recruiting session and mixer

Highlights of the recruiting session include:

  • Patti tells Kimberlie, who is from Calgary, that “anyone who lives in Calgary wants to get out.”
  • Shana, an opera singer, is asked to sing. She complies, and she’s really great. We learn that she’s divorced because her husband cheated on her, and when asked to sing about what happened, she complies: “He posted his penis on a website.”
  • Juree, a hair stylist, is called a “spinner” by Patti, and I only mention this for those of you playing the Patti Stanger Bingo game at home.

The mixer is a “black dress mixer” that takes place at the office… seems like maybe the old Millionaire Matchmaker budget might be getting scaled back on these at this late Season 7 date.

As Vegas Dave begins to interact with the ladies, he’s immediately called out by Patti for asking potential girlfriends how old they are. And then the girls chime in and mention that Dave has trouble keeping eye contact with them.

Dave doesn’t garner anything sympathy though because asking if they have kids or like to drink, he says openly, “Okay, I don’t know what else to ask ‘em.”

“This guy is a f—ing disaster,” Patti tells the camera.”

This is as good a time as any to note that Patti has seemingly openly disliked many of her clients on The Millionaire Matchmaker, but she typically softens on them to a large extent (except/until she ends up kicking some out of her office for how they handled themselves on the date/back at the office). That said, I’m pretty sure she loathes Vegas Dave in a personal way that comes through from the way she talks about and interacts with him.

Related: “This guy is a pussy with a capital ‘P’.”

Meanwhile, Gerry interacts with the ladies with the deft skill of an entertainer who constantly chats with audience members who want to meet him after the show.

Then, in the middle of the mixer, Vegas Dave bails out on the mixer, as in he literally takes off. When Patti tracks him down, he tells her that he doesn’t like any of the women and that he’s “done.” This precipitates a screaming match in which he yells, “F— you” a few times and flips her off for emphasis.

“You can’t get a girl!” Patti yells back.

Shortly after this, Dave yells at the production crew to take his microphone off. Fourth wall broken, and Vegas Dave over and out.

Meanwhile, David handles Gerry’s mini-date selections: Carrie,38, a police officer who we learned owns “pink handcuffs” during the mixer, and Jodi, 53, a commercial real estate agent.

After Gerry’s mini-dates, in which our mentalist was charming and engaging – as were Carrie and Jodie – Patti announces to everyone that Vegas Dave left the mixer because “he thought he was better than us.” And the assembled ladies all seem to pretty much agree with this sentiment.

Finally, Gerry chooses Carrie the cop for his master date.

The Millionaire Matchmaker, “Vegas” Dave Oancea & Gerry McCambridge: Gerry and Carrie’s first date

Gerry takes Carrie back to Las Vegas for their date, which starts out at The Spa at Green Valley Ranch.

While they get a couple’s massage, the couple has fun and light banter, and Carrie seems thrilled with getting pampered. Gerry is also quite adept at making cute but not overly cheesy jokes, which his date seems to enjoy.

Dinner afterward is in a suite, prepared by a private chef. The two talk easily about their families, and then finally Gerry agrees to do a mentalist-y bit for her. He has her “direct” him in tearing strips away from a page from a newspaper until there’s a tiny piece left. When she opens it, he tells her the word will describe how he feels about her.

When she looks at the bit of newspaper, it reveals the word “beautiful.” Points for our mentalist Gerry here, I must say.

Where things do get majorly awkward, I must admit (as I’m rooting for these two) is when Gerry explains Patti’s strong advice that they “tongue kiss,” and Carrie turns him down with a soft, “That’s okay.” A fist bump ensues instead.

Let’s go ahead and subtract those points back from our guy right there, shall we?

The Millionaire Matchmaker, “Vegas” Dave Oancea & Gerry McCambridge: post-date upshot

David and Patti call Carrie, who says while the date was lovely, “I don’t know if I feel there’s a connection in that way.”  In the office, Gerry agrees that the date was good but doesn’t want to see Carrie again.

Patti keeps going back to the fact that Gerry should have “gone in for the kiss” (and that’s mixed with a lot of “so she can feel it down there” talk which… that’s Patti for you). To be fair, Gerry kind of did try to “go in for the kiss,” but the style with which he went about it could have, shall we say, used a bit more showmanship.

The end of episode captions then tell us: “Gerry and Carrie have not spoken since their date. The Mentalist continues to look for his ‘Mental Match’ in Las Vegas.”

And: “’Vegas Dave’ has returned to Sin City, and his life of sports gambling. Nobody is better on Dave having a lasting relationship soon.”

The Millionaire Matchmaker, “Vegas” Dave Oancea & Gerry McCambridge: where are they now?

So, there’s a lot of information out there about what “Vegas” Dave Oancea has been up to over the years.

Example: There’s a Forbes story from 2020 called, “Meet Vegas Dave, A Sports Gambling Hustler, Who Just Sold The Most Expensive Baseball Car in History for $3.9 Million.”

It’s a Mike Trout rookie card, if anyone cares.

More interestingly, there’s a nearly two-hour video available on YouTube called “The People Vs. Vegas Dave: The Vegas Dave Movie.

From the description:

David Oancea, better known as Vegas Dave, is the most renowned sports bettor of all time. Dave was able to do what 99% of the world could not do, and that’s beat Las Vegas, but not just beat them, but beat them for millions and millions of dollars.

Dave’s success led him to getting banned by all of the Las Vegas casinos, and when it could not get any worse, the casinos teamed up with the federal government to come after him. Dave was later indicted by the feds on 19 alleged felony accounts and faced up to 40 years in prison.
