Keeping Up With the Kardashians, “Out of Wedlock”: time for a chill pill

Keeping Up With the Kardashians - Out of Wedlock

Kris becomes a minister and Kourtney is, like, so annoyed with her.

The latest episode of Keeping Up With the Kardashians is titled “Out of Wedlock” and aptly so as it turns out. Kourtney casually mentions to her mom Kris that she might turn her guest room into a nursery. Instantly Kris snaps to attention and her attitude changes to that of a mutant momzilla who ever-so-gently urges Kourtney to consider marriage. And when I say gently, I mean intensely pushy. Naturally Kourtney doesn’t want to talk about the issue so momzilla takes a chill pill (for now) and files the discussion away for another day.

The next day, a family friend named Pastor Brad comes over and asks Kris to become an ordained minister so that she can preside over his wedding the following week. I am not quite sure why he asked her to run the ceremony. I would think that since he has the title of “pastor” in his name that he would have some sweet minister hookups. I also didn’t realize how easy it was to become an ordained minister. A simple test and badabing badaboom you’re ordained! The Internet these days is fascinating!

All of the wedding preparations for Pastor Brad have sent Kris into an ordained tizzy. She has marriage on the brain and is making it her sole mission to marry Kourtney and Scott before they try for another baby. Here’s where it gets a bit intense so buckle up. Kris asks Kourtney and Scott to play the bride and groom while she practices for Pastor Brad’s upcoming nuptials. After Kris proclaims them “married” she berates them again to go ahead and make it official. That was a real smooth ninja move there, Kris. Kourtney and Scott just happen to be around when you feel like practicing your preacher moves.

Kris continues to push the issue and mentions that it goes against her “tradition” and all the values she believes in. Whoa. Hang on there. Let’s rewind a bit to the previous episode where Kris wanted to change her name from Jenner back to Kardashian. Now I know this is a radical idea but stay with me, y’all. I thought it was traditional for a woman to take her husband’s last name, not whichever name makes you the most money that week. I guess they do it differently in California. Kourtney snaps and tells her mother to “F*** [her] tradition!” Wowza. I don’t want to know what would happen if I talked to my parents that way. I imagine a good soap rinse of the mouth would ensue.

In all honesty I have to side with Kourtney on this issue. They seem happy enough without an official piece of paper and as Scott so eloquently declared, “if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it!” They will get married when they feel it is right and not because it conflicts with her mother’s newfound values.

Another interesting thing I noticed was that religion and God were mentioned more times in this episode alone than the entire last season. (And no, the “oh my God!”s don’t count.) It seems as if Kris has done a complete 180 at the end of the episode. Instead of the over-controlling momzilla she has turned into a God-zilla, for lack of a better term. And yes, pun intended. At the end of the episode Kris says marriage is what God intended for all of us. Sure, Kris. I believe your newfound religion just like I believe Kim’s butt x-ray was real.
