“Why don’t they use tongue?” – Patti Stanger
The Millionaire Matchmaker, “Courtney and The Peacock”: client intros
After castigating her new “assistants” at The Millionaire’s Club for “taking numbers” from clients, Patti Stanger introduces Courtney Kerr as the first client of the episode, who was featured on the short-lived Bravo reality TV show, Most Eligible Dallas.
Check out our full and snark-tastic Millionaire Matchmaker episode guide and updates! Trash and treasure in equal increments, we promise.
Quick note here that I watched the hell out of Most Eligible Dallas – it’s trashtastically delightful, and a big reason is that Courtney Kerr is a perfectly charming trainwreck to be at the center of a trashy/soapy reality TV show docuseries.
So that right there means that I’m all in on this edition of The Millionaire Matchmaker.
Or, as Patti puts it, Courtney is “prima donna Dallas.” She adds that she’s smart, beautiful, but not easy to please.
Meanwhile, we also have Stefan Dahlqvist on deck, who owns a fashion company called Moods of Norway. Patti first gasps at this information that she surely knew of already, and then adds, “That’s that weird store with all those weird colors.” And: “She’s like that strange designer. It’s like ABBA on steroids.”
In his intro video, Stefan lets us know that he’s 39-years-old but looks like he’s 29, and that he’s worth about $6 million.
Patti and staff then spend some time discussing whether Stefan is gay or not, even though he clearly talked about meeting women in his intro video.
Courtney then stops by the office, where Patti dubs her an M.I.T., which stands for Millionairess in Training. This, we presume, gets us around the pesky fact that Courtney doesn’t meet the criteria of being a millionaire for which The Millionaire’s Club prides itself on.
We also find out that Courtney Kerr is from Dallas and identifies as a fashion blogger and talk show host these days. No word on whether Stassi Shroeder from Vanderpump Rules knows that Courtney stole her bio.
Patti’s take is that Courtney scares men away by being domineering and therefore needs someone who can “bite back.” Courtney agrees, saying “I don’t want somebody I can walk all over.”
“You’re like a New Yorker stuck in Dallas,” Patti adds.
Sidenote that this is when I noticed that Courtney Kerr is wearing a necklace that displays “CK” in large initials. CK… as is in that’s her name. Courtney Kerr. Moving on…
Courtney’s wish list for a guy includes tall, funny, and someone with job flexibility. Also: swagger.
Over at Moods of Norway, we get to see Stefan step out of his massive pink limousine that we heard about earlier in the episode. He also owns a pink motorcycle that sports a garden gnome on the handlebars. “Pink is the new black,” Stefan says.
“Which team are you on?” is one of the first things that Patti says to Stefan. “Well, actually, I’m straight,” her client replies.
Stefan says he’s looking for a woman who is passionate and has skills that he doesn’t have. JLo is his crush. He’s also quite outdoorsy even though Patti frames his overall vibe as “metrosexual.”
The Millionaire Matchmaker, “Courtney and The Peacock”: the recruiting session & mixer
Highlights of the recruiting sesh include:
- Patti tells Juliette, 28, a performer who also does magic that “if you have more than one job then you have no job.”
- Patti asks Pargol, a behavioral therapist who works with kids with autism, if the reason that she’s never had a boyfriend is because she “has two hair colors.” She also infers that no one will ever want to be with a woman “with an indecisive, schizophrenic look like this. Pargol accepted this advice with a frozen, stunned half-smile.
- A panel of three women are told, “All your shoes suck.”
- In front of another panel, Patti shrieks at her young assistants, “You give me this crap!” This crap refers to the women… who are standing right there.
- Paul, a naval officer, is asked, “Are you definitely 100% straight?” before being told that he looks like he’s in a boy band and also that he’s “very West Hollywood.”
- Mr. Bo is asked, “Do you breathe fire?” before being told that he’s “creepy deepies” by Patti. To be fair, Mr. Bo is creepy deepies.
- We learn that David, a computer tech from Seal Beach, used to be a stripper, so of course he’s asked to give a little performance of his wares. David happily complies.
The mixer takes place at a spot called True Hollywood. Oh, and there’s a twist, people! Courtney and Sefan are given blindfolds, so we’re getting a little Love Is Blind crossover at the mixer stage. Also, The Millionaire Matchmaker is foregoing the mini-date round once again, so the clients will be forced to make their master date selections based on their blind initial interactions.
“I feel like I’m playing Seven Minutes in Heaven,” Courtney says.
In their initial interactions, both Courtney and Stefan felt frustrated at first with the blindfold gimmick but eventually settled into it. Patti felt at first that her clients dominated their conversations with potential dates at first, but after being instructed to cool out, they listened more and had more substantive conversations.
Instead of mini-dates, the next round becomes a mini-mixer, where a handful of people are advanced to chat with Courtney and Stefan in a group setting – and this time the masks come off.
When it’s time for the Big Date winners to be revealed, we get another twist: Stefan chooses his fellow Millionaire’s Club client, Courtney. And it does seem like they are well suited for each other on the surface and additionally got along well in their brief pre-mixer interactions with one another.
The pressure is then on Courtney to select Stefan or one of the other mixer participants, but she quickly and happily accepts Stefan’s proposal.
The Millionaire Matchmaker, “Courtney and The Peacock”: Courtney and Stefan’s first date
Stefan opts to take his Texan gal, Courtney, for a Western-style line dancing lesson and barn dance at The Cowboy Palace Saloon and gets a little schooling in doing a four-count dance before his date shows up.
Stefan, who is a native Norwegian, looks a little goofy in his bolo tie and cowboy hat but is certainly a good sport and gets into the spirit of learning line dancing with Courtney.
After the lesson, Stefan’s enormous hot pink limousine picks the couple up. Courtney meanwhile tells the camera that she didn’t expect to find this particular combination of tall and charming and funny and interested in fashion as Stefan is.
Their next stop is the backyard of a rental house with a view of the Hollywood hills, where Stefan again impresses Courtney by opening a bottle of champagne with an iPad (as the saber he had ordered hadn’t arrived in time). A Norwegian gospel singer, Kina, then shows up with a guitarist in a man bun to sing “Amazing Race.” There’s also another little garden gnome on the table, and the whole scene is pretty odd… but Courtney seems to dig it, so who am I to judge?
“The gnome is so hysterically random,” Courtney tells him.
The two sit with their feet in a pool looking at the picturesque sunset at the end of the date, and when Stefan goes in for the kiss… it appears that he is offered a peck on the cheek only.
The Millionaire Matchmaker, “Courtney and The Peacock”: post-dates upshot
Patti and her underlings call Courtney via video chat, who relays that everything about the date was both unusual and great, in her view.
Courtney frames the kiss at the end of the date as “an attempt.” Patti tells Courtney that she needs to “take the stick out of your ass” and stop trying to control the situation with men so much. Later, Patti then goes into her weirdo “juicy goosey” philosophy with regard to this stuff, that I’m not going to bother trying to explain further.
Courtney does say that she would “totally” go out with Stefan again.
In the office, Stefan agrees that the date went great, and frames “the attempt” at the end as “a little Norwegian/Swedish pecking going on.”
“I hate pecking,” Patti says. “Why don’t they use tongue?”
Stefan is then sent on his way with orders to call Courtney to figure out their farfetched long-distance relationship.
The end of episode captions then tell us: “Stefan and Courtney have been in constant touch. Stefan is planning a long weekend in Norway for them both.”
The Millionaire Matchmaker, “Courtney and The Peacock”: where are they now?
