The Millionaire Matchmaker, Katrina Parker & Dr. Theo Kousouli (“Workaholics”): seeking Mr. Darcy

The Millionaire Matchmaker - Katrina Parker & Dr. Theo Kousouli

“How long have you been 29?” – Patty Stanger

The Millionaire Matchmaker, Katrina Parker & Dr. Theo Kousouli: client intros

In a quick opening segment that involves Patti Stanger, her boyfriend David, and a dog trainer (from a company called ZenDog), we learn that one of the couple’s dogs is named Shrek, which is kind of interesting, I guess?

Check out our full and snark-tastic Millionaire Matchmaker episode guide and updates! Trash and treasure in equal increments, we promise.

Over at the office, Patti quickly berates her new underlings (except for star pupil David), and then we segue to meeting the first client, Dr. Theo Kousouli, a chiropractor.

Dr. Theo is also a “wellness healer” and “hypnotherapist,” so there’s that.

In his intro video, Dr. Theo talks about how great his abs are and that he drives a jaguar, while we see a montage of what looks like modeling photos. He’s interested in the “European look” when it comes to the ladies.

Then, David introduces the “completely sweet” Katrina Parker, who Patti refers to as the “blonde Adele.” In her intro video, Katrina talks about performing on The Voice and how she’s working on an album of “dog songs.” I don’t know what that means as I’m not a fan of The Voice, so moving on.

Katrina’s celebrity crush is Colin Firth circa his role as Mr. Darcy in the 1995 British TV adaptation of Pride of Prejudice, apparently. She’s looking for Patti’s help because finding time to develop a serious relationship with someone has been challenging with her busy career in entertainment.

The Millionaire Matchmaker, Katrina Parker & Dr. Theo Kousouli: Patti meets the clients

Patti meets Katrina at a recording studio in Los Angeles, and greets her with, “Hey, Miss Thing!”

Katrina lets us know that she’s working on an album called In And Out of the Dark (so maybe that’s the dog album?), and that growing up in the South helped to give her a deep appreciation and love for music.

Katrina is in her 30s and at a point in her life where she’s ready to settle down and get married. Patti broaches the topic of weight, and Katrina freely admits that she’s “plus sized.” Patti laments that many men are looking for “tits on a stick,” in her view.

Katrina is also looking for someone with a sense of humor, and while she grew up Baptist in the South, she’s a liberal living in Los Angeles these days and seeking a man with similar values.

Over at Dr. Theo’s office, he lets us know that he’s “36 years young,” and I have to just interject there and relay that when people use “young” instead of “old” for age it’s a major pet peeve of mine.

Dr. Theo also focuses his chiropracting and “hypnotherapy” healing talents for the “entertainment industry” in Los Angeles. He also finds himself to be a “very good catch,” but he’s too busy to meet women, apparently.

The Millionaire Matchmaker, Katrina Parker & Dr. Theo Kousouli: the recruiting session and mixer

Highlights of the recruiting session include:

  • One of the biggest highlights is that Patti didn’t meltdown on anyone during this segment, which is exceedingly rare.
  • Tim, 30, a vocal coach, is asked to sing a cat song because Katrina likes dog songs. He’s also told he looks like Mr. Darcy.
  • David Nicoll is told by Patti: “Acid washed jeans, not in style anymore.” We then learn that he was nominated for an Emmy for writing songs for NSYNC. This sometimes turns into his being encouraged to do boy band dancing moves for Patti and the underlings, and that somehow turns into his doing Chippendale-style moves on Patti.
  • We find out that the name Pinky is a “cliché name in India” (and here I was thinking it was mostly a nickname for Siobhan on Succession). Intriguingly, she’s also a stylist for Robert DeNiro’s wife, Grace.
  • Natasha, a pop singer, tells the group she’s 29, which Patti follows up with, “How long have you been 29?”

Before the mixer, Patti and David go to a relationship therapist, and things get kind of real. David says that Patti dominates all situations and feels emasculated, while Patti says she’s not helping him around the house enough.

The mixer is held at an “old Hollywood club” called No Vacancy. The gimmick is this one is that everyone is encouraged to write down stuff on “icebreaker cards” to help the clients get to know everyone more quickly, one would presume.

They include questions like “favorite movie to watch over and over again,” which is my kind of question. My instant and first reaction would be Goodfellas, which my wife has zero fondness for, but thankfully she married me many moons ago and puts up with me nonetheless.

Dr. Theo is seen by Patti and crew as handling the Q&A sessions well at first, while Katrina gets chastised for talking about her career too much. Things turn around for her when she’s asked what’s the scariest movie she’s seen (28 Days Later – decent answer, says I), and gets on well with James the British casino dealer.

For the mini-date round, Katrina goes for Tim the vocal coach and David, the acid washed NYNC songwriter. Dr. Theo hesitates when asked what his choices are and Patti chimes in, “Do you have a penis down there?” Finally, he selects Tania, a non-profit worker, and Pinky the stylist to Bobby D’s wife.

For the full-blown master date, Katrina chooses David, a fellow performer who seemed enthusiastic and eager to get to know her better, while Theo selects Tania because she has “depth to herself.” During the mini-date, the two connected on being nerdy outcasts while growing up.

The Millionaire Matchmaker, Katrina Parker & Dr. Theo Kousouli: Katrina and David’s first date

David keeps things on the music theme, by having Katrina meet him at the House of Blues, bouquet of flowers in hand.

The date in fact takes place on the House of Blues stage, where they are served at a table and have the entire venue to themselves. The two connect about the feeling of performing, even though Patti had warned both clients this week to keep conversations to non-career related topics.

Because Katrina loves horror movies, David next takes her for a stroll through Hollywood Forever cemetery. Not common first date territory, but maybe it’ll payoff for these two crazy kids.

There’s even a gimmick where a creepy-looking butler rolls up to their graveside picnic spot and offers the couple “a creepy cocktail.”

“Oh my god, this is so up my alley,” Katrina says happily.

The Millionaire Matchmaker, Katrina Parker & Dr. Theo Kousouli: Dr. Theo and Tania’s first date

Meanwhile, Dr. Theo and Tania meet on the beach, where they share a warm embrace that’s slightly unusual at this stage of a Millionaire Matchmaker episode, typically.

Theo’s idea is to have a photographer take pictures of them both “to celebrate you,” he says, but perhaps he’s mostly interested in celebrating himself as he seems pretty eager to get his shirt off and his modeling on, if you feel me.

“These feel like engagement pictures,” Tania says, giggling nervously.

Later, the two have lunch at a classy-looking restaurant overlooking the beach. The conversation gets a bit deeper, and the two connect over their commitment to their families and how they haven’t had time to focus on romantic relationships in the past.

Then he laid a cheesy move in an attempt to work up for a first kiss – the old “can I tell you a secret?” gambit – but she called him on it, which left Dr. Theo in the Friend Zone for now. However, Tania does agree to go out on a second date with him.

The Millionaire Matchmaker, Katrina Parker & Dr. Theo Kousouli: post-dates upshot

Patti and underling David call date David first, and he relays that while he had a good time on his date with Katrina, he was feeling friend vibes and not romantic ones. The call was super quick, but this seemed quite contrary to everything we saw and heard from him up until this point.

My suspicion at this point is that he saw an opportunity to get on television to promote himself in some way… even though we never heard him sing or found out his last name.

In the office, Katrina said that the date was romantic, but that there was “zero chemistry.” However, Katrina now feels that she wants to make the effort to find love in her life.

Patti and Justin then call Tania. She relayed that she had a good time with Dr. Theo but wasn’t ready for the First Kiss. In the office, Theo says that the second date had actually already happened, and that things are going well with them. Weirdly, we never found out about the kiss situation, but the episode quickly ends at that point.

The end of episode captions then tell us: “Katrina and David have not kept in touch. But when she meets ‘the one,’ Katrina will know she can have a relationship… and a career.” And: “Dr. Theo and Tania have been out several times since Patti introduced them. Dr. Theo may have finally filled a prescription… for love.”

I’d rather serve up some cowbell to fill that prescription myself and really explore the space, but that’s just me.

The Millionaire Matchmaker, Katrina Parker & Dr. Theo Kousouli: where are they now?

Katrina Parker has produced two full length albums to date: In and Out of the Dark in 2013 and Stars in 2019.

Her latest single dates back to 2020, and immediately appealed to me as it’s a cover of The Doors’ “People Are Strange.”

It’s pretty good is my super quick review.

Dr. Theo Kousouli has a website where he now promotes himself as a “spiritual hypnosis consultant.”

Sigh.
