The Millionaire Matchmaker, “Marysol Patton & Luke Rockhold”: Patti meets the clients

Marysol Patton, 47, from Miami, Florida tells the camera, “Most people know me from appearing on The Real Housewives of Miami.”

Since I’ve never seen a single second of that franchise, I’m glad that she clued us in on that score. Marysol adds that she’s “painfully shy,” so she’s brought her best friend Alexia to help her deal with Patti Stanger, presumably, and also in the process of finding someone to explore a relationship with.

Alexia helpfully adds that Marysol needs to “feel herself” because any guy would be lucky to be at her side.

Much more importantly from my personal perspective: Marysol has also brought Reza Farahan of Shahs of Sunset fame to help her out, who I absolutely love and who helped make that long running reality show worth watching even when it got long in the tooth in its latter seasons.

The always fun-loving Reza tells Marysol, “If it’s not Mr. Right, it might be Mr. Right Now.”

We also learn that Marysol has been married twice, and is a year removed from her second divorce. She also has an “extremely demanding” job these days running a marketing and events firm.

Reza, also known for his bluntness, says of Marysol, “She’s very negative, though. If you tell her a guy likes her, she’s like, “No, he’s not looking at me.”

Side note that Reza is simply captioned as being in “real estate” without mention that he’s the star of an at the time hit reality TV show on Bravo.

Marysol tells Patti that she’s looking for a man who is honest and passionate about his work. Reza then insists that Marysol is terrible at picking men, and they need to choose one for her as a group. He also says that Marysol “needs to be slutty” and that, uh… her downstairs bits are “frozen.”

He also gives her the advice that “you need to realize that you are attractive and that men are looking at you.”

Next up, we meet Luke Rockhold, 29, a UFC fighter from Santa Cruz, California. Luke talks about the focus it takes to be a professional MMA athlete and how that requires putting “blinders on to the outside world.”

“I’ve sacrificed everything and that’s all to be the best in the world,” he adds.

Part of Rockhold’s UFC pedigree involves a technical knockout of Chris Weidman at UFC 194, which helped him to become the UFC middleweight champion in late 2015.

Now, Luke is seeing his friends settle down and have kids and he wants to experience those things as well. He also admits that while he is fearless of his opponents in the octagon, the “love world” makes him a bit fearful. This expression of vulnerability is endearing, and Rockhold comes across as an earnest, low drama guy.

Patti meets Rockhold at a UFC training gym, and Luke admits that he hasn’t had a serious relationship since his very early 20s. Patti gets weirdly aggressive with Luke over his saying that he hasn’t had the time to be in a relationship in a long time.

She eventually tells him that she’s not sure if he’s “emotionally ready,” which is pretty rich considering the absolute wackos and egomaniacs that have appeared on The Millionaire Matchmaker over eight long seasons.

Luke says he seeks a beautiful woman who has also “figured themselves out” and has a solid career direction.

Patti is semi-combative with Luke throughout the conversation, and I felt myself hoping that someone like Ronda Rousey would pop up and give her a nice arm bar or rear naked choke out move.

The Millionaire Matchmaker, “Marysol Patton & Luke Rockhold”: the recruiting session and mixer

For the cocktail party-meets-recruiting session round, some highlights:

  • A woman named Ada is encouraged to “shake her booty”
  • Reza on one guy: “Pump the breaks on the metro, homeboy’s not wearing socks.”
  • Patti to Scott, a restaurant owner from Laguna Niguel: “I smell some money.”
  • A guy named Don, 50, is asked if he’s wearing a toupee because his hair “looks so good.”
  • Talia, 29, who has been cheated on the past, is asked, “Why are men such cheaters and dogs?”
  • Patti tells Tiffani, an “alternative” looking loan officer, that if given the chance, Luke Rockhold will “will melt the juice out of your goose.”

For the next round, three men and women are chosen apiece for The Millionaire’s Club clients. For Marysol, it’s Scott, Wesley from Calabasas, and Robert, a real estate developer from Pales Verdes.

Patti slides in product placement for her new wine and announces that the group mini-date round will involve making sangria.

Keeping in theme with this final season of The Millionaire Matchmaker, Patti takes over the proceedings at times, quizzing the men on why they’re looking for love now. This turns the free-flowing conversation into an interview panel. In other words, survey says: lame.

Arguably lamer: the “reveal” of who Marysol chooses for her full-blown date is punted until we go through the same exercise with Luke and his mini-date round.

For Luke, Talia, Tiffani, and Emaan, a hair stylist with a Jordania background, is chosen. During their conversations, it’s pretty funny when Luke seems to hit it off most with Kara, the mixologist behind the bar who is in theory supposed to make drinks for everyone (but was likely “planted” there by show producers).

Luke soon tells Patti that Kara is his choice. Patti, while apprehensive – and it’s noteworthy that she really does seem to lowkey hate Luke for some reason – brings Kara back to the bar so that he can formally ask her out on a date. “I would love to,” is her quick response.

The Millionaire Matchmaker, “Marysol Patton & Luke Rockhold”: Marysol and Scott’s first date

Finally, we learn that Marysol has chosen the “reeking of money” Scott, who meets Marysol at an airfield with the plan that they’ll go for a helicopter ride.

Marysol seems quite, uh… taken with Scott as she can’t help but eyeball him up and down and check out the goods a bit, if you follow.

The notion of a helicopter ride is of course potentially romantic, so it’s hilarious that as they head east into the heart of Los Angeles, it’s a super washed out, hazy day and all we can see is sprawl and dull haze in every direction (note: as a longtime LA County resident, there are many days like this).

“It’s great to see everything so clearly,” Scott remarks, so we can assume our guy is heavily involved in the sales side of his business.

In any event, Marysol seems absolutely thrilled with everything Scott-related, and tells the camera later, “muchos puntos” (many points) for her date thus far.

Next up is wine tasting, which Marysol quickly mentions is her “favorite thing in the world.”

“I get lost in his eyes,” she adds soon after.

Over wine, Marysol soon becomes flushed, perhaps by way of a combination of the alcohol and her confession that Scott makes her feel “nervous” because she is indeed attracted to him.

Soon, the couple jump up from their table so they can sneak away from the camera to have their first kiss. This if nothing else shows off Marysol’s experience with being constantly filmed for a reality TV docuseries.

Sidenote that the camera “catches” them kissing anyway.

The Millionaire Matchmaker, “Marysol Patton & Luke Rockhold”: Luke and Kara’s first date

Luke and Kara meet in Venice Beach, where a jet ski tour is on tap.

It’s a good idea that they get on a tandem jet ski so that they can chat easily out on the water.

“She wasn’t scared of the throttle – she really let it rip,” Luke says admiringly about Kara when she took over the controls.

Kara for her part relays that they had a good time in an interview.

Champagne and berries are set up for the couple on the deck of a yacht next, and this is the part of southern California that does look rather incredible.

Luke tells Kara that his goal in the UFC is to be “the best in the world,” and Kara responds, “Well, it keeps you in amazing shape, that’s for sure.”

The two seem to connect on a personal level and about what kind of lifestyle they’re looking for, and soon they get their first kiss on.

Luke mentions a few times that “things are going a little too well,” and it’s hard to tell exactly what he means by that.

The Millionaire Matchmaker, “Marysol Patton & Luke Rockhold”: post-dates upshot

Patti and David call Scott first, who says the date was “great” but honestly it sounds like he could be talking about a book he read about improving sales versus meeting the woman of his dreams. Via Skype, Marysol says that Scott is “very sweet,” and Patti encourages her to tell Scott to visit her in Miami next… which, if that ever happens, I will frankly be shocked.

Candice and Patti then call Kara, who says that the date was great “in the beginning.”

She goes on to say that Luke ended up being “a little disrespectful,” and then relays information that we did not see on camera up until that point, in which Luke asked her if she “spits or swallows.”

We do then see this clip, and it’s even worse than what it sounds like (if that’s possible), as we see a clearly inebriated Lule lift the back of her skirt up as he asks the questions.

“I think he’s just used to girls who will give it up,” Kara concludes.

“He’s a UFC dog,” Patti agrees.

Also: it seems like Patti’s kind of palpable dislike of Luke turned out to be correct, which is pretty annoying too, I must add.

In the office, Luke semi-sheepishly tells Patt that the date went “well.” Patti quickly lays into him for “touching my staff.”

“Actions speak f—ing louder than words,” Patti says, and she’s correct.

Luke then gets kicked out of the office, which we’ve not seen on this show in some time, though the editing makes it seem like Pattii’s ire is ramped way up in post-production.

The end of episode captions then tell us: “Luke and Kara have not seen each other again. Luke continues to win in the ring, not in love.”

Editor’s note: it’s octagon, TMM show producers, not ring.

Also: “Marysol and Scott are doing great. He has even traveled to Miami to see her.”

Okay, so maybe all my instincts turned against me in this episode. Who knew003F
